This area will soon have its own sub-forum.
A reminder that Utopia is located in the North-West portion of The Spine, between Sheppard’s Rock and Ira.
On the main isle of Utopia, humans hustled about with their daily lives. Dance rituals were performed, prayers were made, crops were harvested. Now that the Utopian tribe was no longer nomadic, they had learned the art of agriculture. The Dragons had taught them that, or so it was said. Rice was abundant in the wet lands, and the people had no fear of food ever going short. As time went on, the Birds of Paradise became less important to their culture. Soon, the birds were mostly only used by those with great wealth or status. The leader of their people, the Emperor, was said to have descended from the Sun Goddess. The line was traced very far back, and he was the face of this strange archipelago of The Spine. However, he was not the true ruler. The true rulers of Utopia were the Emperor’s own heads of military, who married their sons and daughters into the Emperor’s great line. Sure, the true enemies were mostly the Dragons of the South West Spine; who were less understand and quick to jump to conclusions about the Spine’s inhabitance of humans. It was mostly these dragons who plagued the humans, playing tricks on them in the guise of demons, and keeping their population in check. The last thing the Dragons wanted was humans closing in on them from both sides. But, the humans had long forgotten about the outside world. They were unaware of the other humans whose blades clashed with those of the Dragons, until not very long ago… But that is not important at the moment.
Meanwhile, on Isle de Aqueous: Long black hair filled the sky like a cloud of embodied darkness thrown about in the wind. This woman’s almond-shaped, golden hues were cast up at the clouds. In her irises reflection, the Birds of Paradise flew uncaring in the wind. A harpoon shot through the air directly into the bird and protruded out the other side, blood fell from the sky and landed directly on the woman’s ashen skin. The harpoon was quickly pulled on, and the barbed end of the harpoon was now wedged into the bird. There would be no escape. The woman raised the back of her palm from the small stalagmite she had perched herself on, and used it to wipe the blood from her cheek. How easy would it be for these humans to bring down a Dragon with that technology? Did they think about it sometimes? The bird was now being pulled back to the small hunting airship, and soon it completely lost the ability to fly and began to fall from the sky. It could only fall as far as the rope, though. The humans soon pulled it aboard.
Dragons were a less common sight for the humans nowadays, possibly because they had lost interest in them. They kept to their small clutter of islands, and that was all that mattered to the Dragons. That was why Kai kept herself disguised in a human form; Kai, the one idly sitting on the stalagmite. But how had she gotten to the stalagmite in the middle of Lake Aqua? Surely, no human could ever get there; unless they happened to be lowered there by an airship, and what would be the point of that? Lake Aqua made up more than eighty percent of the Isle de Aqueous. A good simile would be, it was like an upside down baseball cap. There was a chunk of land at one side, and the rest was a deep pool of water. Water always spilled out of the lower edges of the island, creating a dangerous current. This was why humans could not swim in it. On the opposite side from the land mass, there was a cliff where most of the birds mated year round. This was a protected part of the island, and the killing of a bird there was punishable by death. Alas, there has been a digression. It was these strange habits of the Priestess known as Kai, that earned her the distrust of the Humans. Behind her back, she was called “The Demon Priestess”. Of course, she knew it referred to her. She grew fond of this title, and started to use it to refer to herself. Kai was the second in command of a small temple outside of The Floating World. The Floating World, of course, could be descriptive of any island in this strange world. However, in this particular city, it referred to the people. The Floating World was a place of beauty and pleasure, dancing, theatres, and art. It was also the new capital of Utopia.
Kai helped the humans of Utopia greatly, expelling malevolent spirits and troublesome Dragons. Some would not leave without a fight, others happily left after she explained to them she had claimed this area as her territory. But many humans were wary of her, what they did not understand. She did not look like their “Gods”, and there were rumors of her turning into a bird with a scaled head and no beak. And if she wasn’t a God, she had to be a demon. Kai found this to be rather bothersome, because she herself was troubled that she did not look like the normal dragons.
Some people refused her help at all, while others offered her into their homes for dinner. Which, of course, Kai declined. As a priestess, she did not want to impose on the people she helped. That and, she did not eat their food. That was another thing; nobody had ever seen her eat, ever.
Kai glanced around, before leaping off of the stalagmite. The hunters had long ago got their catch and gone to bring it back home. The dragoness weightlessly made it to the mass of land, her red cheongsam and hair flowing behind her; an abstract blend of red cloth and black hair. It was time to go back home, she was done meditating the moment the harpoon cut through the bird, if not when the blood touched her face. Blood.. When was the last time she had fed?
